Quality for Energy Grants up to $5000 for Improving Home Energy Efficiency
2011-09-15 13:16:02
The Government of Canada has renewed its popular ecoENERGY Retrofit – Homes program. The program could help up to 250,000 Canadian homeowners improve their energy efficiency and generate as much as $4 billion in economic activity acrossCanada.
The grant process begins with a home energy audit to measure efficiency improvements that can be made. Typical energy efficient updates including increasing insulation levels, retrofitting to keep drafts out, installing new windows, and improving heating and cooling systems. Upgrading your attic and wall insulation can provide up to $2000 in Federal grant.
Not only do you receive a government grant for an insulation upgrade but you add value and quality to your home. According to the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), proper insulation and air sealing can save up to 40% in home energy bills.
The appropriate insulation system can reduce your energy use, saving you money, and improving the comfort of your home. Effective insulation systems have an air barrier that prevents the movement of air through the system, vapour retarder, minimal thermal bridges, and air tight seal to prevent moisture and heat escapes.
Homeowners have until March 31st, 2012 to apply for POST-retrofit energy audit to qualify for energy grants up to $5000 to make their homes more energy-efficient. Take the first steps to qualify for energy grants by registering with Natural Resources Canada.
